CoBL held its first-ever Performance Clinic on Wednesday night, with more than 30 area high schoolers taking the court at Widener University under the direction of CoBL scouting director Kenny Jackson, as well as Cheltenham’s John Timms and Constitution’s Kyle Sample.

The participants went through two hours of drill stations, working on everything from one-dribble pull-ups, floaters and decision-making to close-outs, crossovers and 3-pointers. Then they broke off into teams for a half-hour of 3-on-3 play and a half-hour of 5-on-5 action.

Here are some standouts from the clinic:

Jordan Camper (2017/PF/Chester)
Camper’s game is improving every day. He proved that at tonight’s performance camp. He excelled at getting to the rim and making plays for his teammates. When his shot wasn’t open he looked for guys around him. The 6-foot-7 power forward can get up; in the first set of drills Camper showed his capability of being quick and getting to the rim as he swerved in and out of the cones, then slamming a windmill dunk three feet inside the foul line. And he also knocked down a few 3-pointers for good measure, though shooting isn’t a strength of his yet.

Stanley Davis (2016/G/Chester)
Davis showed his ability to make plays and run the offense. He was truly everywhere on the floor tonight. He was one of the fastest players on the court. He showed that at the end of the night when he was on a 5-on-5 transition to the basket. He used his speed to dish beautiful passes to his teammates. Davis is a player who knows how to run the offense to benefit both his teammates and himself. His selfless basketball will help Chester a whole lot next year.

Michael McFadden (2017/SG/Holy Ghost Prep)
McFadden wasn’t the tallest on the court tonight, but he can shoot the lights out of the gym. In the first shooting drill of the night he went 7-for-8 from mid-range and then only missed a few 3-pointers the following drill. After missing his sophomore year with a torn ACL, don’t be surprised if you see McFadden as Holy Ghost’s top scorer next year. The 6-foot-2 guard can make plays for himself and really cut off screens well, despite only a month into his return from injury.

Ryan McTamney (2016/SF/La Salle HS)
McTameny is going to be needed to step up for La Salle in his final year of high school, and he’s certainly putting in the work to be a featured piece in the Catholic League. The 6-foot-5 wing forward was a standout in all of the shooting drills--especially in the mid-range, where he does a great job of squaring up to the basket and rising up for knock down shots. He’s got a crafty offensive game as well, which he showed off in the 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games, and doesn’t mind crashing the glass, either.

Aiden Newell (2017/PG/Upper Merion)
Maybe the best shooter all night long, it was tough to find anybody in the gym hitting more consistently in drills than this 5-foot-8, 145-pound guard. No matter where the shot was taken from, it was falling for Newell--corner, foul line extended, even floaters and step-backs were dropping. And he’s certainly got a point guard’s feel for the game, making the right decision much more often than not and making sharp, crisp passes in game action. Division III schools are going to be all over him next year.

JaZere Noel (2017/SG/Woodbury)
Noel really showed his capability on getting to the rim and finishing. He came out to play tonight; his jumper wasn’t just on but his ability to get an open shot has developed into something special; he also did a good job on the glass and showed good effort on the defensive end. Woodbury is going to use him as a weapon and threat to get points up on the board, and he’s a potential Division I prospect. The 6-foot-3 wing guard isn’t the longest player out there, but his athleticism gets the job done for him.

Christian Ray (2018/SG/Octorara)
Christian Ray didn’t play like a rookie tonight, he knew what he was doing; heading into his sophomore year, he played like he was an up-and-coming senior. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard (pictured) excelled in making plays and getting open for his teammates. Not just once, but multiple times Ray would cut back door on his defender to get an easy basket. Ray was also really impressive on his pull-up jumpers. With his size and developing skill set, he’s certainly on the Division I radar.

Cornell Rochester (2016/PG/Woodbury)
The word that defined this 5-foot-11 point guard’s game tonight was “smooth.” He stood out in dribbling drills with a tight handle and ability to switch directions with ease, and could pull up and drain shots with range out to the 3-point arc. During game play, he pushed the tempo and showed he could attack the basket, break his man down off the dribble 1-on-1 and get to the hoop; he also made a few nice passes when the defense collapsed.

Honorable mention: Kevin Brown (2016/Cherokee), Avery Close (2017/Phoenixville), Kahssian Kay (2016/South Philly), Jack Kusters (2018/Lansdale Catholic), Colin MacAdams (2018/Central Bucks West), Barry Quartlebaum (2017/South Philly), Jamar Sudan (2017/Chester), Thomas Wolfe (2017/Malvern Prep)
