Many things can affect a player’s recruitment. For a coaching staff, a lot has to go right on a visit for a player to commit to your school, even the weather has to be right.

When Bishop McDevitt senior point guard Jayson Clark visited Albright College the first time, it was in the middle of the recently passed winter, on a day when it was too cold and windy to be outside for more than a few seconds.

Last Wednesday, he was greeted by a sunny spring day and got to see the campus in a nicer light, and it was the final domino for Clark to commit to the school in Reading.

“When I went to visit the first time, it was very cold and we could only tour inside. I didn’t get the full experience of the campus," he said. "When I went back last Wednesday and it was warm, I fell in love with it."

Clark, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Andorra, averaged 14.3 points as a senior for the Lancers. He said it came down to the Lions and Widener for his final decision, and the academics of the school, coupled with his relationship with the current players and coaching staff made the final decision for him easy.

“I ate lunch with three of the players while I was up there and we had a really good time. It felt like a family, and that’s how they treat their program,” Clark said.

Clark is enrolling as a pre-med major, with plans to eventually become a neurosurgeon.

On the court, specializing in slashing and getting to the free-throw line, he scored over 20 points against eventual state champions Neumann-Goretti and Roman Catholic in 2014-15. His leadership in captaining a young team was his best trait, and one he looks to continue to use when he gets to Albright.

That will be key for an Albright team that went 9-15 last year.

“On and off the court, I think I can bring leadership, even coming in as a freshman. Even if I don’t start, I think I can be a great floor general and just have poise on the court. Whether we'e up 10 or down 10, I can get my teammates open for great looks or get myself to the free-throw line."
