Team Final Scrimmages: Standouts

Quite a few of the region's top prospects were on display this weekend at Team Final's annual pre-live period scrimmages. Team Final, Team Final Black and the Jersey Shore Warriors--along with the Albany City Rocks and NJ Got Game--descended on Life Center Academy this Saturday for a few hours of warmup games with the first live period coming this weekend.

Here are some standouts from the event, focusing on local players from the 16U & 17U action:

Lamar Hamrick (2016/St. George’s/Team Final Black)
Hamrick is quite the intriguing prospect. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, he has an ideal frame for a shooting guard at the next level. Over the past few weeks alone, he has shown the ability to get it done both behind the arc and at the rim. Although he can certainly stroke it from deep, he really excels when attacking the hoop. Hamrick hasn’t received any high major offers yet, but he’ll be sure to receive a good deal of interest this summer playing alongside Neumann Goretti guard Zane Martin on Team Final Black. If he continues to stay disciplined on the defensive end and wreak havoc in the passing lanes, Hamrick will have a lot to look forward to over the next few months.

Mike Millsip (2017/Neumann-Goretti/Team Final Black)
Millsip plays the game hard, which is probably his best attribute. The 6-4 wing has a powerful guard’s body but a still-developing skill set, so he gets a lot of his production by crashing the glass and out-hustling his opponents. He’s got a nose for the basketball and is constantly following up on his teammates’ shots, and he isn’t afraid to mix it up for rebounds with players quite a few inches taller than he. Should earn some court time for the Saints this year as a hustle/glue guy, and if he develops his handle and shot he could become a mid-major prospect in a year or two thanks to his athleticism.

Cameron Reddish (2018/TBD/Team Final)
Remember this name if you haven’t already, because Reddish has a chance to be the next big thing to come out of Philadelphia. The 6-6 guard has a very developed game for someone just entering his sophomore year of high school, with the ability to run an offense, score at a very efficient pace and defend at a high level to boot. He’s a terrific outside shooter both pulling up in transition and off feeds from teammates, and he’s got a very good handle for a player of his size and age. After playing his freshman year at the Haverford School (and getting some varsity minutes as an eighth grader to boot), Reddish will be playing his sophomore season at either Friends’ Central or Westtown. Expect the high-major offers to roll in sooner rather than later.

Josh Sharkey (2016/Archbishop Carroll/Team Final)
After playing with WE R1 last summer, Sharkey made the move to the EYBL circuit to play alongside former Abington Friends teammates Tony Carr and Lamar Stevens. The speedy 5-foot-10 guard was very impressive in his first taste of game action with Team Final, scoring a few nifty buckets and grabbing a boatload of steals that ultimately turned into fast break points for his team. He appeared more than content with his role of backup point guard behind Carr, his longtime friend. Sharkey has skills for days, but his lack of size projects him to land on the mid-major level at best.

Lonnie Walker (2017/Reading HS/Team Final)
A springy 6-foot-4 guard, Walker is a thunderous slam dunk waiting to happen. But he’s by no means one-dimensional. Playing alongside fellow dynamic guards in Tony Carr and Nazeer Bostick, Walker seemed to enjoy the general lack of double teams and high-intensity pressure from opposing defenders. On multiple occasions, he found himself wide open from behind the arc and promptly knocked down the shot with ease. Obviously, Walker is bound to experience much greater pressure on the EYBL circuit, but that doesn’t look like it’ll be a problem for the Reading HS star. Walker already has an offer from Villanova and can expect many more high-major offers to come his way this summer.

Talek Williams (2017/William Allen HS/Jersey Shore Warriors)
This 6-2 guard was opening eyes just during warmups, when he was casually throwing down windmill and 360 dunks. He brought that athleticism out during game play, too, hanging in the air around the rim for some flashy finishes and big-time dunks. The lefty wing also showed he can knock down a perimeter shot or two, but where he really excels is in the open floor, where he can use his athleticism and his excellent court vision to get easy buckets for himself and his teammates. If he can improve his handle and his shot, he's got the athleticism to play at a very high level.
