Strengths: Very good feel for the game and tempo, understanding when to push in transition and when to back out and set up the offense. Very good 3-point shooter when he can set his feet, shoots effective enough off the dribble but not afraid to head fake and drive; has a decent floater which he can use to score over bigs.
Weaknesses: Needs to be more assertive at times; he can go for 20-plus in a game but still too often finishes in single digits. Needs to work on getting his jumper off in tight space, because he won’t have as much room to shoot at the next level. Needs to continue to work on lateral quickness. Settles for jump shots too often sometimes.
Overall: Lots to like about Rodriguez’s game, though he didn’t take quite the leap forward we expected him to as a sophomore. Still, certainly a Division I prospect with two years left of high school, though he needs to start showing he can take over a game and raise his skill set to the next level.
