Strengths: Vilmar is the man behind the scenes of his Roman basketball team, but has the potential surpass everyone in front of him. The very athletic sophomore wing has a tremendous upside, and the athleticism of a major college player. He’s a slasher who can finish strong at the basket and likes to use his athleticism to attack the offensive glass. Vilmar has good form on his jump shot, and though he plays clean up because of his team he could be a scorer if relied on more.
Weaknesses: Needs to develop a more consistent jump shot, quicken his release and develop his handle to become a true perimeter player instead of an athlete who can hit some shots.
Overall: A versatile wing guard, Vilmar has an intriguing developing game that could propel him into high-major territory by a year from now. Right now, it’s tough to tell exactly what level of Division I he’ll end up at, as it doesn’t look like he’s going to grow much more and his guard skills are still developing. We’ll learn a lot more over the next 6-8 months.
